Worship your Shed!

‘Deities at the Bottom of the Garden’ by Richard Bartle

We recently visited a very interesting exhibition of a series of 12 scale modelled garden sheds with each shed and its interior having been painstakingly hand crafted to represent a different religion. Sheffield artist Richard Bartle has ‘reduced the usually grand architecture of churches and temples into more private spaces of worship and explores in minute detail the customs and icons of major world religions and belief systems’. You can make your own mind up about the differences and similarities between differing belief systems, but we found it interesting to try and work out which religion was depicted in each shed without knowing in advance.

You can see the work for yourself at 20/21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe until 23 Feb.
